外吉は富山県で酒造業を営んでいた酒井仁十郎の四男でしたが、1919年に彌平次の養子となりました。外吉は1922年に「イチマル寿原商店」を継承、1941年「株式会社寿原商店」、1957年「株式会社スハラサプライ」、1974年「株式会社スハラ」と改称、1983年「株式会社スハラ」と「株式会社スハラ商事」に分割しました。そして建築資材の総合卸商社に発展させました。
