寿原一族

小樽では「寿原財閥」といわれるほど、寿原家のビジネスは大成していました。1882年に寿原彌平次が小樽の鰊の噂を聞き、富山県から小樽に来て陶器店を開設しました。1889年には義弟の猪之吉が和洋小間物店を開設しました。1895年には彌平次、弟重太郎、猪之吉の三人共同経営で、卸と小売りを展開しました。以後重太郎が核になり、舶来品を全道に卸す「寿原商事」をはじめ、「小樽市場」「スハラ食品」等で大成しました。その後猪之吉の長男英太郎が事業を「北洋相互銀行」に発展させ、継承されていきます。

Suhara clan
In Otaru, The Suhara family’s business was so successful that it was called Suhara conglomerate. In 1882, Yaheiji Suhara heard a rumors about the herring that could be caught in Otaru and came to Otaru from Toyama Prefecture to open a pottery shop. In 1889, his brother-in-law Inokichi   opened a Japanese and Western small shop. In 1895, Yaheiji, his younger brother, Jutaro, Inokichi jointly operated a wholesale and retail business.  Then Jutaro took the lead, they made great success at Suhara trading company, which imported products throughout Hokkaido, as well as Otaru Market and Suhara Foods. After that, Eitaro, the eldest son of Inokichi developed the business into Hokuyo Mutual Bank and inherited it.
